About Patrycja Piętka’s painting
Patrycja Piętka’s paintings emerge from darkness, fog and dusk. What is understated, indistinct, suggested, foreboding, thanks to the extraordinary consistency of this young painter, her erudition, self-awareness and perfectly mastered painting technique, acquires a mesmerizing charm and great suggestiveness. And it reminds us that paintings are not what they seem.
What will happen when we stand in front of Patrycja Piętka’s paintings? When we finally open our eyes?
At first, the viewer’s gaze is bound to encounter a blurry afterimage. Indeed, we will not be sure of what we are seeing. Only later do the shapes and shadows begin to sharpen. Finally, we get used to the light. We suggest that the described looking exercise be applied when looking at Patrycja Piętka’s paintings. Paintings that undeniably have the ability to intrigue, seduce and undoubtedly delight – subtle luminosity intertwines with fascinating darkness on her canvases. Undeniably, we are immersed in this amazing atmosphere and mood, created with the help of a particular and consistent color scheme of the paintings, distinctive and eye-catching. This is an artwork that is difficult to pass by indifferently. The paintings, imbued with the artist’s sensitivity and reflection, invite the viewer to a dialogue with his own interior, anxieties, ruminations of the most intimate and delicate emotions.
Patrycja Piętka, thanks to her excellent technique and well-thought-out compositions, skillfully transports the viewer to any time and place, freezes snapshots of history and captures selected frames maintained in oneiric poetics, surprises with images taken out of the deepest layers of dreams.

Patrycja Piętka is a painter, stage designer and installation artist, a graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She is a finalist of the 46th Biennale Bielska Jesień 2023. She defended her diploma entitled “Vargtimmen/Godzina wilka” realized in the studio of Prof. Mirosław Sikorski with distinction in 2022. Patrycja Piętka often uses the motif of night and vanitas associated with passing in her work. Her painting series evoke feelings of melancholy and anxiety in the viewer. She captures the emotionality of nature in a tender way. For her, painting is a kind of spiritual quest. More specifically, the artist draws inspiration especially from film culture and literature. She also follows the psychology of characters and the specifics of building tension. This is because she is fascinated by symbolism and understatements hidden in the layers of reality. However, this is not all. For Patrycja Piętka also seeks inspiration in philosophy, as a consequence of which her work is firmly rooted in one of the basic philosophical disciplines that studies the properties of being. In metaphysics. The first solo show of the artist’s works was the exhibition “Depth” (Art Agenda Nova, 2021).
