This year’s Edinburgh International Festival will be held from August 2 to 25, 2024. It presents an impressive variety of artistic events. One of the festival’s highlights will be a new partnership with the legendary single malt whiskey distillery, The Macallan. The partnership has inaugurated a unique Opening Event. The event took place August 2-4, attracting more than 10,000 attendees.

Edinburgh International Festival: Syncretism of art, culture and tradition

Edinburgh International Festival is one of the largest art events in Europe. It is known for its interdisciplinary approach to the presentation of art. The festival is characterized by true syncretism. Classical music, contemporary music, opera, theater, dance and visual arts. Events such as the “Opening Concert: La Pasión según San Marcos” and opera performances such as “Carmen” and “Così fan tutte” highlight the musical richness of the festival.

Unique opening event

The Opening Event “Where to Begin” is the centerpiece of the festival. It refers to this year’s theme “Rituals that Unite Us.” Under the direction of creative producer Katy Fuller of Pinwheel, the event combines the mythology and history of Scotland. They create a spectacular visual show. It took place in one of Edinburgh’s iconic locations, using projections, installations and storytelling to invite participants to discover Scottish identity through a new ritual.

Guests and artists

The festival attracts outstanding artists from around the world. Among them are outstanding countertenor Jakub Józef Orlinski, pianist Yuja Wang, and the Bamberger Symphoniker orchestra, which will perform Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, among others.
