Built by the prestigious Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman, the 51-meter sailing ship Borkumriff IV is a combination of nautical tradition, craftsmanship and luxurious elegance. Recently, this marvel of maritime engineering found a new owner. It is also a good opportunity to recall the unique features of one of the most recognizable classic sailing vessels of our time.
Borkumriff IV – a classic inspired by Newfoundland
Designed for deep-sea voyages and a prestigious presence in the world’s major ports, the Borkumriff IV took to the water in 2002. Its silhouette is inspired by traditional Newfoundland schooners. This gives the vessel a timeless character. Legendary American schooner designer John G. Alden was responsible for the exterior lines. Meanwhile, the naval architecture was developed by specialists from the renowned Dykstra Naval Architects.

The yacht was made of aluminum. Both the hull and part of the superstructure. Meanwhile, the elegant teak finish emphasizes its nautical soul and luxurious flair. The vessel’s overall length is 50.58 meters (with bowsprit). The width is 9.2 meters. The draft is 4.3 meters.
Luxury yacht with an interior worthy of a master class
The interior of the Borkumriff IV yacht was designed by acclaimed designer Joha Munford. He is the creator of many prestigious interiors for the most demanding owners. The luxury yacht can accommodate six guests in three spacious cabins with ensuite bathrooms. The centerpiece is a full-size owner’s cabin with a separate study. Meanwhile, amidships there are two double cabins with separate beds.
The interior finish is a premium masterpiece. Precious mahogany and teak woods harmonize with bright ceilings and floors. The result is a space that is warm, yet dignified and sophisticated. The whole is complemented by custom-made furnishings that emphasize the prestigious nature of the yacht.
Symbol of sailing tradition and maritime ritual
Unique to the deck of the Borkumriff IV yacht are two cannons. Not for defense, of course, but for tradition. Every evening, at sunset, they are the ones that announce the ritual lowering of the flag. A tribute to old naval customs. Two auxiliary boats (tenders), neatly hidden on wooden decks, provide independence and functionality for cruising.
Luxury yacht with the heart of a sailing ship and horsepower
Although designed as a sailing ship, the Borkumriff IV is also equipped with a propulsion unit. It is an MTU engine with between 1,057 and 1,072 horsepower. It allows comfortable sailing at a cruising speed of around 10 knots and a maximum speed reaching up to 14.6 knots. Thanks to the harmonious combination of sails and mechanical drive, the yacht combines the romance of classic sailing with the safety of modern engineering.
Price appropriate to the rank – 9,950,000 euros
At the time of the sale, specialists valued the Borkumriff IV at around 9.95 million euros. Despite the price, the yacht found a new owner through renowned broker Arne Ploch of Camper & Nicholsons – one of the most prestigious brokerage firms in the world.
Borkumriff IV. An iconic sailing classic finds its way into new hands
This transaction not only closes a chapter in the history of this unit. Also, it opens new opportunities for the future owner. Probably a sailor with a vision and an appreciation for the luxury maritime tradition. Borkumriff IV is not only a luxury yacht. It is also a lifestyle manifesto in which prestige, history and design excellence form a unity.
